Rifugio Borletti to Payerhutte
June 30, 2008 After listening to thunderstorms for most of the night I awoke to clear skies in the morning. Up at 7:05a and packed, then after a quick breakfast I started for the Payerhutte. The trail crossed scree slopes and ascended steep switchbacks to a pass just to the east of the Tabarettakugal overlooking the valley at (2460m – 8071ft) (10:40a). From here I crossed more scree and snowfields before climbing steeply up more switchbacks to Passo della Tabaretta (2903m – 9524ft). From the pass the trail skirted along the rocky ridge up to the Payerhutte (3029m – 9938ft). The hutte occupies a fantastic position on the ridge crest with great views.
